Derby does not happen without officials
Officials turn the rules into a bout people can trust. They follow fast-moving action, communicate clearly, keep accurate records, and protect the people on the track.
Skating officials
Skate alongside the action, call penalties, award points, monitor gameplay, and keep the bout moving within the rules.
Non-skating officials
Track scores, penalties, lineups, and jam time. Their careful records keep the entire officiating crew working from the same information.
League volunteers
Announce, photograph, staff events, work on committees, welcome spectators, or bring a skill the league has not discovered yet.

Officials arrive early, keep learning, make difficult calls under pressure, and stay until the work is finished. Their preparation and judgment let skaters focus on playing and help everyone trust what happens on the track. We are grateful for every whistle, hand signal, stopwatch, penalty sheet, and person willing to teach the next official.
Questions before you begin
Do I need roller derby experience?
No. New officials and volunteers can learn the rules, procedures, and responsibilities alongside experienced league members.
Do I need to know how to skate?
No. Non-skating officials perform essential roles from beside the track. If you want to referee on skates, LCRD can help you build the skating and officiating skills you need.
What if I only want to help occasionally?
That is still valuable. Bout-day and event volunteers can help with many focused roles without taking on a year-round commitment.
What if I am not sure which role fits me?
Tell LCRD what interests you and how you like to work. Someone can explain the options and help you try a role that matches your comfort level.
